It is 100% crucial for small business owner to have a strong online presence to attract new customers and stay competitive. A key factor for success is to optimise your website for local search engines and local search queries. This is known as local SEO.
Here are some best practices for small businesses to improve their local SEO:
- Claim your (GMB) Google My Business listing. This is the best location for business owners to manage their google profile, and can include most of your business information such as business name, address, phone number and business hours. You can improve your local search visibility by claiming & verifying your listing. Make it easy for customers to find your business.
- Optimise your website content for local keywords. Use content & meta tags that include relevant local keywords, such as the name of your city, town or state.
- Get listed on local directories. List your business on relevant local directories such as Yelp, Yellow Pages, & TripAdvisor. Optimise to improve your visibility in local search results.
- Encourage reviews. Positive reviews have a big impact on your local SEO.
Encourage your customers to leave reviews on platforms such as Google My Business, Yelp, & TripAdvisor, & respond to all reviews. - Build backlinks. The more backlinks you have, the better, & the more authoritative your website appears to search engines. This will in turn improve your local SEO. Reach out to other local businesses & ask if they would be willing to link to your website. Collaboration can be required.
Remember, it is important to keep track of your website's data and constantly optimise it, as well as keeping your information like address & contact information up to date at all times. This in turn will help search engines understand that your business is active & up-to-date.
