SEM (Search Engine Marketing) Glossary:
  • PPC (pay-per-click): a type of online advertising where the advertiser pays a fee each time one of their ads is clicked.
  • CPC (cost-per-click): the amount an advertiser pays each time one of their ads is clicked.
  • CPM (cost-per-thousand impressions): the amount an advertiser pays for 1,000 impressions of their ad.
  • CTR (click-through rate): the percentage of people who click on an ad after seeing it.
  • Conversion rate: the percentage of people who complete a desired action (such as making a purchase) after clicking on an ad.
  • Keyword research: the process of finding and selecting keywords to target in an SEM campaign.
  • Ad group: a set of related ads that share the same keywords.
  • Landing page: the webpage that someone is directed to after clicking on an ad.
  • Remarketing: the practice of showing ads to people who have previously visited a website.
  • A/B testing: the practice of comparing two versions of an ad to see which one performs better.
